Let’s take a look back in time …
1977
„It all began with a dream and with the desire to create something of our own, which over the years has developed into a holiday home with a heart, where guests become friends.“
A young couple, Marlene and Josef, fulfilled their life’s dream and, on 24 December 1977, just a few months after their wedding, they opened the Guesthouse Gruber. In the early days, their parents and friends were somewhat sceptical about their plans. Many thought it too risky, especially as the couple were just 22 and 26 years old. But their success proved them right …
1980
The 16-bedroom guesthouse soon became a popular location for many holiday guests.
From the very first moment, taking individual and warm care of all guests was a top priority. Guests soon became regulars and friends and many of them are still loyal to the family and the hotel today, almost 50 years later.
1983
Those were busy years, as the guesthouse was managed almost single-handedly by the couple, with the exception of a few employees.
Marlene and Josef were true all-rounders. The two happily ran the kitchen, laundry, bookings and, of course, looked after the guests with great pleasure. Their private life was also blessed. On 04.11.1983 daughter Sonja was born.
1986 – 2007
With the birth of son Christian on 16.12.1986 the family and their happiness were complete.
The following years were focused on continuously improving the Guesthouse Gruber, step by step. Diligence, courage and an open mind for new things have always been Marlene and Josef Gruber’s strengths. A terrace café was opened on the lawn next to the house and the former “ski cellar” was quickly converted into a sauna.
2008 – 2018
Big changes were afoot, and the Guesthouse Gruber was completely modernised and extended.
New rooms, a small but smart wellness area, an underground car park, lift, a new dining room and many further improvements transformed the Guesthouse Gruber into the *** star superior Hotel Gruber. At the same time, the business was slowly being handed over to son Christian. A dream was passed down to a new generation, and together we want to continue to run this hotel as has been close to our hearts since the first day it opened: A home for a time, where guests become friends ...
2019 – 2022
On 19.10.2019 son Christian and fiancé Sabine were married in the parish church in Sesto.
In the years that followed, and much to the delight of the family, grandchildren Alex and Lukas (†) (2020) and Daniel (2022) arrived. The family continues to be committed to working together in the hotel. Marlene and Josef Gruber are naturally found everywhere in the hotel where help is needed. Even though they are now passionate grandparents, they don’t for a second think of retiring.
2023
